Comparison of sources, A and B.

Both sources are similar in content about the unfairness the people of singapore were treated by the British. Source A states that “when I was first elected and appointed Chief Minister, I was told I had no office, no clerk, no thambi”. This shows how the British tried to hold back on power, treating the local leaders in power unfairly. SImilarly, Source B states that “Singapore witnessed a staggering 260 labour stoppages, walk-offs, go-slow and sit-downs .Students even locked themselves in  ”. This shows that the people of Singapore were unfairly treated and made them unhappy.

Both sources differ in that what the locals wanted to achieve. Source A states that David Marshall wanted to help with the political matters of Singapore but was prevented from doing so as the British wanted to restrict his authority by not giving him a office,a clerk,as well as a thambi and he threatened to set up his office in either his flat or under a apple tree .From Source A, it states that “I had to threaten to bring a desk here and set it up here or in my flat before I could get an office!” This show that the British had treated him unfairly and though he was the Chief minister but he was never treated as important . Source B states how the people of Singapore tried to achieve what they want by rioting.   From Source B, it states that “ Chinese students ignored the government’s official closure of their school and locked themselves in their classrooms where they established their own revolutionary curriculum. This clearly shows that the chinese students were very unhappy with the British and wanted to fight against the government
